Description

In hindsight, the 1960s were a turning point for Hong Kong, a time of dizzying change in the arts, in culture, politics and society. In many ways, the Hong Kong of today - for good or ill - is a direct product of that memorable era. To revive the spirit of the time, in 1995 the Hong Kong Arts Centre hosted the 'Hong Kong Sixties - Designing Identity' exhibition, which used industrial design as an entry point to the 1960s zeitgeist. This spin-off book presents the reader with the same images and ar tefacts as the exhibition, and even goes a step further with its modernist design, extensive commentary, and its overview of Hong Kong society on the eve of the 1997 handover.
