It is important for designers who participate in design award competitions to understand and identify with the spirit, philosophy and values advocated by the award organisers. Since its inception in 2003, Hong Kong Design Centre’s Design for Asia Award has been promoting the concerns for the impact of design on Asian cultures, sustainable development and technology. The Award inspires designers to capitalise on regional cultures and arts and crafts to create innovative designs that can help the people in Asia solve the various problems they face.
This book introduces the excellent designs selected for the 2013 Hong Kong Design Centre Awards and the most outstanding works, among them, for the 2013 Design for Asia Award, and their respective design teams. Included in the book is a special feature - “Design in Asia: Now and Future”, which invited eight design publications in the region namely Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan, to share their insights on the current situation and trends in the making of the design world in their respective countries and city. Through their eyes, we can preview the future design developments in Asia.
